How to Make French Press Coffee
For those who don’t want to invest in equipment, or who simply prefer the taste of steeped coffee, French press coffee is a great option and takes less than 10 minutes.
Here's how to use a French press at home so you can brew a small batch of coffee with no appliance or filter.
What You'll Need
Liquid measuring cup
Measuring spoon
6 tablespoons medium-coarse Folgers® coffee grounds
3½ cups distilled or filtered water
Hot water kettle
Thermometer
French press coffee maker
Step 1
Measure & Heat
Add 6 tablespoons of Folgers® coffee grounds to your French press coffee maker. Separately, heat 3½ cups of water to about 200°F.
Step 2
Pre-Wet
Slowly add 1½ cups of the hot water to your French press, wetting all the grounds. Let them sit for one minute to bloom. Then gently stir.
Step 3
Steep
Slowly add another 2 cups of hot water until the waterline is level with the silver rim on the French press. Put the lid in place, but don’t press down. Wait 6 minutes.
Step 4
Press
Slowly press the plunger down until it’s fully depressed. Then serve and enjoy.
